In the waters trickling down from the Yumihara
mountain range is a bog unique even by world
standards. The Imou Bog is one of the largest
in the Tokai region, where such bogs are
scarce, and has become a great educational
area. The constant flow of water has allowed
a mix of rare northern and southern plant
species to co-exist. The bog presents a
great opportunity to observe wild plants that
grow in dry areas and hydrophytes living together
in their natural habitat. Local species such
as the Mikawa veratrum and Shiratama Hoshikusa
(Eriocaulon nudicuspe) also grow in the park,
which has been designated a national treasure
of Aichi Prefecture. |
