Streetcar at the Undokoenmae stop

Ultralow-floor Streetcar LRV801

The streetcars of Toyohashi have a long 80-year history that dates back to 1925. The city line extends from the Ekimae stop in front of Toyohashi station to the Akaiwaguchi and Undokoenmae stops. With a track length of only 5.4km, the line is second shortest to a streetcar line in Okayama prefecture, however it is the only streetcar line that runs along National Route #1. The Ihara intersection between the Ihara and Undokoenmae stops boasts Japan’s tightest rail bend with a radius of only 11m.
The majority of streetcars are type 3702, built in 1927, and which were previously used in Tokyo and Nagoya. The new ultralow-floor model LRV801 streetcar has been in use since 2005. The streetcars have been given affectionate names, such as the Noryo Beer Train, which runs in the summer evenings, and the Flower Train, which runs during the Toyohashi spring festival.
