It takes about 1km from the Cape Irago Lighthouse to the Hiinosekimon Sunrise Stone Gates facing the Pacific Ocean. There are many famous places for cherry blossoms in Toyokawa and the Sanagawa Riverside which flows through the center of the city is one of them. Around 800 trees were planted in 1951 in commemoration of river improvement completion displaying pink flowers every year which hang low and come into contact with the river surface. People such as volunteers have been carrying out work on the area in recent years creating a contrast with the yellow colors of nanohana flowers.Details >
These trees were planted by the magistrate Okubo Nagayasu under order of the Shogunate in 1604 to protect people traveling along the Tokaido Path from the heat of summer and strong winds in winter. There are around 300 large pine trees lined up for 600m from Goyu to Akasaka post towns still intact from the olden days.
